This paper deals with the preparation and characterization of thin transparent films of TiO2 with particular interest to the effect of film thickness (repeated layer deposition) and to the relation between crystallinity, photoactivity and surface hydrophility. TiO2 layers were prepared by sol-gel method from titanium(IV) iso?propoxide, isopropyl alcohol and acetylacetone were used as solvents and hydrochloric acid as a catalyst. Final calcination was at 500 °C for 2 hours. Characterization was performed using XRD, UV/VIS spectroscopy and SEM. Photoactivity was measured using two dyes: anionic acid orange 7 and cationic methylene blue. Příspěvek se zabývá přípravou a charakterizací tenkých transparentních filmů TiO2 se zaměřením na vliv tloušťky filmu (několika násobné nanášení vrstev) na krystalinitu, fotoaktivitu a kontaktní úhel. Vrstvy TiO2 byly připraveny metodou sol gel z tetraisoproxy titanátu, isopropylalkoholu a acetylacetonu (rozpouštědla) a kyseliny chlorovodíkové (katalyzátor). Teplota výpalu jednotlivých vrstev byla 500 °C, doba výdrže 2 hod. Filmy byly charakterizovány RTG difrakcí, UV/Vis spektroskopií a SEM. Fotoaktivita byla zjišťována odbouráváním dvou modelových barviv: aniontového acid orange 7 a kationtového methylenové modři.
