The paper deals with the simulation of spontaneous development of spruce, spruce-beech and beech stands on selected plots in the Czech part of the Krkonoše/Karkonosze biosphere reserve. On two plots in beech and spruce-beech stands where a natural proportion of silver fir is currently missing in the species composition, virtual group and individual underplanting of silver fir was done. The modelling of stand development was done by means of the growth simulator SILVA 2.2. The present state of the stand was visualised and the prediction of development after 25, 50 and 100 years was computed. The results of modelling confirm the hypothesis about a possibility of leaving selected stands to spontaneous development, and they can be used as background data for the implementation of specific management (fir introduction into the stand by underplanting) in similar site and stand conditions to accelerate the return of the ecosystem to the close-to-nature state.
