dcterms:description
The invasion by three related taxa from the genus Reynoutria, two parental taxa (R. japonica var. japoncia and R. sachalinensis) and their hybrid (R. ×bohemica) was compared in the River Jizera basin, North Bohemia, Czech Republic. Three aspects of the invasion process were examined: the invasion success of Reynoutria taxa in different habitats, the structure of host communities, and the effect of the invasion on the invaded communities. The genetic variability of all three taxa was also studied using isoenzyme analysis. Several results pertaining to the role of invasion, plant diversity and disturbance in specific communities emerged: (1) The species richness of communities has no influence on the success of Reynoutria invasion in the area studied. The combination of environmental conditions and propagule-spread is more important to the invasion success than the number of species in the host community. (2) Reynoutria invasion greatly reduces species diversity and this reduction was more conspicuou The invasion by three related taxa from the genus Reynoutria, two parental taxa (R. japonica var. japoncia and R. sachalinensis) and their hybrid (R. ×bohemica) was compared in the River Jizera basin, North Bohemia, Czech Republic.
