dcterms:description
Sweet cherry tree (Prunus avium L.) historically occupies important position among fruit trees that form landscape character of the Czech Republic. There are several reasons why it has remained in countryside and country field gardens until present days: from the grower point of view, it is an undemanding species which on seed rootstocks in case of full standard tree forms last out great age. Additionally, it is not necessary to use permanent buttres (wooden post) for outplanting as it easily anchors in the ground. Mostly, it does not suffer from calamity diseases (absence of monoculture), naturally sparse treetops usually do not need regular every year cutting and their aesthetic values are indubitable. The tree beauty is evident not only during dormancy (distinctive habitus of relatively large treetops) but in growing season as well and then mainly when blossoming and later in the end of autumn when leaves change colours from gold orange to brown. Except from original botanic (wild) species of wild Sweet cherry tree (Prunus avium L.) historically occupies important position among fruit trees that form landscape character of the Czech Republic.
