dcterms:description
Phytoextraction, the use of engineered metal-accumulating plants to remove toxic metals from soil, could be a potential environment-friendly and cost-effective technology compared to casual remediation techniques. EDTA applications resulted in a high solubilisation of Pb and Cd. Cadmium and lead contents in plant shoots of Zea mays after the application of EDTA showed significantly increased the uptake of heavy metals. Single applications proved to be generally more efficient due to higher plant uptake rates most likely enhanced by physiological stress.
