dcterms:description
Carotenoids are highly unsaturated aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons (carotenes) and their oxidized products (xanthophylls), which possess significant antioxidant properties and could contribute to healthy human nutrition. In the years 2004 and 2005 precise field trials were performed with the aim to evaluate effect of variety, year of cultivation, N, P, K, Mg fertilisation and cover with white propylene fibre on the total carotenoid content (TC) in potato tubers. TC was determined by absorption UV-VIS spectrophotometry in four parallel determinations in ten potato varieties. Obtained results were evaluated statistically with ANOVA method by variance analysis with simple and double comparisons and Scheffé test. The precise field trial focused to the evaluation of variety influence was performed on Experimental Station of Central Institute for Supervising and Testing in Agriculture situated in Lípa. Statistically significant difference in the ability of varieties to synthesize carotenoids was found Carotenoids are highly unsaturated aliphatic and alicyclic hydrocarbons (carotenes) and their oxidized products (xanthophylls), which possess significant antioxidant properties and could contribute to healthy human nutrition.
