In the field trials on five localities in the CR in the years 2004-2005 the effect of selected factors and the effect of yellow- and purple- fleshed varieties on ascorbic acid (AA) and total polyphenols (TP) content was assessed. AA content in average of nine varieties reached the value 1703 mg kg-1 FW and was demonstrably affected by the genotype of variety and locality conditions. Among five localities the highest AA content on the locality in lowland region (174 m a. s.) with the warmest and dry climate and light-textured soils was determined. In the case of total polyphenols no significant difference among localities was found, but the tendency to higher TP (by 9-22% as compared with other localities) on the locality Stachy, which had connection with apparently lower temperature during vegetation period in this locality. In Valfi purple flesh variety higher TP content by 90% was found as compared with the mean value of yellow flesh varieties.
