dcterms:description
Altogether 16 species have been found in the study area (= 80 % of the total Czech fauna). Broadly distributed species prevailed in our collections, most species are Palaearctic in general distribution (6 species, 37.5 %), followed by temperate European (4 species, 25 %), smaller proportion of species are European (3 species, 19 %), temperate and South European (2 species, 12.5 %) and West Palaearctic (1 species, 6 %). At least B. marci and B. varipes developed partial second generations in the hot year of 2001 (usually only several species of Dilophus are regularly bivoltine in Central Europe; interestingly, a similar phenomenon was observed in several species of Empidoidea). Occurrences of B. ferruginatus are the first records of this species in Moravia, while those of D. bispinosus are the first records of this Submediterranean species in the Czech Republic. This brings to 20 the number of Bibionidae known from Moravia and the Czech Republic as a whole.
