In precise field trials on 4 localities in Czech Republic with different altitudes – Přerov n. Labem (178 m), Praha-Suchdol (286 m), Lípa u Havlíčkova Brodu (550 m), Stachy (860 m) – four potato varieties (Impala, Karin, Ditta, Saturna) were grown according to unique common cultivating procedure, and in addition on Lípa locality Agria, Asterix, Magda, Marabel varieties and variety of Czech provenience with purple-fleshed tubers Valfi were cultivated. After the harvest at physiological maturity samples of tubers from four parallel samplings were analysed at the Department of Chemistry of Czech University of Agriculture in Prague. Ascorbic acid content was determined in fresh tubers by polarographic method. For the determination of polyphenol content (spectrophotometrically with Folin-Ciocalteau reagent) the samples were immediately after the harvest frozen and then lyophilised.
