Cadmium is one of the heavy metals that can be harmful for organisms at low concentrations. To protect themselves from heavy metals poisoning, plant cells must have developed a mechanism by which the metal ion is immediately complexed and inactivated. The knowledge of proton-binding characteristics is of primary importance for thorough understanding of metal-ligand interactions.The acid-base properties and cadmium(II) ions binding abilities of PC2, the shortest phytochelatin, glutathione and its analogues were studies in solution using various methods and compared.
