Phytoremediation is one of the most friendly techniques for permanent decontamination of polluted soils. The accumulation potential of Amaranthus species is highly affected by soil properties with the dominant role of pH among all investigated soils. Amaranthus hybridus showed promising values of above ground Cd biomass offtake. More than 19 % of total soil Cd amount was taken off annually compare to 9.5% in the case of Amaranthus retroflexus from the most contaminated soil. The values for Zn were fourfold lower and reached 4.3 % in the case of Amaranthus hybridus and 1.7 % in the case of Amaranthus retroflexus at the same soil.
