Phytoremediation is already an accepted tool in removal of contaminants from the environment. Accumulation of heavy metals increased in plants bearing the transgene coding for the polyhistidine cluster, combined with yeast metallothionein. While control tobacco plants accumulated in average 15.8 mg Cd.kg-1 in above-ground parts, 19.9 in the roots.
