dcterms:description
Acetylcholinesterase (AChE) and butyrylcholinesterase (BuChE) activity, its inhibition and reactivation is widely studied for elucidation of action of toxic compounds such as nerve agents as well as for the effect of antidotes (especially reactivators). AChE activity can be determined biochemically (homogenates of tissues, parts of organs not differing in the fine localization of the activity) or histochemically (allowing to localize the activity/inhibition/reactivation), both in vitro and in vivo. It is demonstrated that complementary use of these two methods can contribute to more precise localization of the the target. Moreover, both methods correlate well and are used for elucidation of the action of nerve agents. Other morphological results (microvascularization, morphological changes) are also of interest. Other factors influencing the activity of both enzymes are described.
