The modern communication systems work with a wide spectrum of data compressions algorithms or voice codecs. At the same time many ways of data encrypting are used. This paper briefly deals with possible method of detection and classification of compressed and encrypted data streams. The main part of this document is focused on method of detection if the examined, in general unknown, data stream is encrypted or if a certain kind of compression is used. The classification method used here is based on statistical testing of the unknown data stream.
