Learning needs analysis is usually undertaken to determine the gap between the existing skills, knowledge and abilities of staff and those that are needed for the organisation to function at the desired level. Once this gap is identified, decisions can be taken as to the type of training required, if this is the preferred action, and the form of delivery. The information gleaned from needs analysis can be used to help teachers to define program goals to achieve the required quality of training. These goals can be then stated as specific teaching objectives, which in turn will function as the foundation on which to develop lesson plans, materials, tests, assignments and activities. The paper describes two independent research findings. The research carried out from 2005 to 2010 at the University of Defence in the Czech Republic provides teachers, as well as stakeholders in education and those who seek up-date information, with the military professionals language needs.
