In the precise field trials the effect of potato varieties with yellow, red and purple flesh colour and the effect of the location conditions on antioxidant activity (AA) of tubers (determined with ABTS assay and expressed in mg ascorbic acid.100 g-1 FM) cultivated in three locations of the Czech Republic was investigated. The highest AA was determined in the dark purple-fleshed variety Violette (95.4 mg ascorbic acid.100 g-1 FM). In the purple- and red-fleshed varieties AA was in average 2.9 time fold higher in comparison with the yellow-fleshed varieties. Statistically significant differences of AA was also determined between the purple- and red-fl eshed varieties, where the highest AA values were determined in the varieties with the highest anthocyanin content (it ranged from 18.8 to 64.1 mg of cyanidin.100 g-1 FM). Obtained results did not proved the effect of the location on AA content of tubers.
