The use of coccinellid predators for lowering the population density of aphids may be limited by their prey specificity. The aim of the study was therefore to check the suitability of six aphid species for a common aphidophagous coccinellid, P. quatuordecimpunctata. It was found that this species differs from some more specialised species, e.g., Coccinella spp., by being rather polyphagous. All six aphid species are suitable prey, although feeding on Aphis craccivora (with Vicia faba as host-plant) resulted in high larval mortality (20%) and the lowest fecundity (278±166 eggs) among the studied preys. The difference was not significant due to a high variation. Možnost využití dravých slunéček při snižování populační hustoty mšic je zásadně ovlivněna jejich potravní specialisací. Cílem práce proto bylo zjistit vhodnost některých druhů mšic pro hojné slunéčko P. quatuordecimpunctata. Tento druh je - na rozdíl např. od slunéčkovitých rodu Coccinella - poměrně polyfágní. Všech šest druhů mšic je pro něj vhodnou potravou, i když Aphis craccivora na hostitelské rostlině Vicia faba působila nejvyšší mortalitu larev (20%) a nejnižší plodnost samic (278±166 vajíček).
