In the 2000 hydrological year, the watershed of Plešné Lake was a net source of acidity (H<sup>+</sup> production of 29 meq m<sup>-2</sup> yr<sup>-1</sup>), dominated by SO<sub>4</sub><sup>2-</sup> release from soils (85 meq m<sup>-2</sup> yr<sup>-1</sup>), NH<sub>4</sub><sup>+</sup> retention in soils (40 meq m<sup>-2</sup> yr<sup>-1</sup>), and NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup> release from soils N (22 meq m<sup>-2</sup> yr<sup>-1</sup>). The release of Ca<sup>2+</sup>, Mg<sup>2+</sup>, and Na<sup>+</sup> (85 meq m<sup>-2</sup> yr<sup>-1</sup>) and ionic Al forms (56 meq m<sup>-2</sup> yr<sup>-1</sup>) were major terrestrial H<sup>+</sup> sinks. Ionic composition of tributaries showed seasonal variations mainly in NO<sub>3</sub><sup>-</sup>, base cations, and Al concentrations.
