Gametes of sturgeon fishes differ from those of teleost fishes by the presence of acrosomes with 8-10 posterolateral projections in spermatozoa and multiple micropyles in eggs. Despite the multiplicity of micropyles may provide the spermatozoa with an advantage of easier entry finding into the egg, but it increases the risk of polyspermy, which can be lethal for the embryo. Function of acrosome and process of fertilization in sturgeon spermatozoa were investigated by means of light, fluorescence and electron microscopy. A fluorescent ?Soybean Trypsin Inhibitor conjugate with the Alexa Fluor? 488 dye? was used for monitoring of acrosomal reaction. The acrosome reaction includes a formation of a spear-like fertilization filament, coming from 3 endonuclear canals and implantation fossa (opposite side of nucleus) through the acrosome, and which accelerates the process of polyspermy prevention. Tato vícečetnost mikropylí může sice poskytnout spermii výhodu snazšího nalezení vstupu do jikry, ale na druhou stranu zvyšuje riziko polyspermie, která může být pro embryo letální. Funkce akrozomu a proces fertilizace u jeseterů byla zkoumána pomocí světelné, fluorescenční a elektronové mikroskopie. Fluorescent Soybean Trypsin Inhibitor konjugovaný s Alexa Fluor? 488 dye? byl použit k monitorování akrozomové reakce. Akrozomální reakce zahrnuje formování kopí podobnému fertilizačního filamentu, vznikajícího ze 3 endonukleárních kanálů a implantační jamky (protější strana jádra), skrz akrozom. Ten zrychluje proces prevence polyspermie. Další unikátní vlastnost akrozomu je kotvě podobný otevírání posterolaterálních výběžků, který zabraňuje uvolnění spermie z mikropyle během penetrace.
