In vitro kultivované hepatocyty lososa obecného (Salmo salar L.), byly inkubovány se směsí sezaminu a episezaminu pro zjištění možného vlivu na metabolismus lipidů. Přidáni sezaminu/episezaminu (0.05 mM, konečná koncentrace) vedlo ke zvýšení elongace a desaturace 14C 18:3n-3 na dokosahexaenovou kyselinu (14C 22:6n-3, DHA, P0.01) a snížení genové exprese 6 a 5 desaturásy v porovnání s kontrolou. Sezamin/episezamin zvýšil kapacitu hepatocytové -oxidace 14C 18:3n-3 (P0.01) na 14C produkty, acetát, malát and oxaloacetát, přičemž byla zvýšena genová exprese karnitin palmitoyltransferásy I. Zároveň byla zvýšena genová exprese klastru diferenciace 36 a exprese ?scavenger receptoru? typu B. Genová exprese PPAR a PPAR byla snížena. Množství triacylglycerolu sekretovaného buňkami bylo sníženo v hepatocytech inkubovaných za přítomnosti sezaminu/episezaminu v porovnání s kontrolními buňkami. Touto studií byl prokázán příznivý vliv sezaminu na metabolismus lipidů vedoucí ke zvýšené hladině DHA.
