dcterms:description
Brain components of the putative cascade regulating the circadian rhythms were examined across the class of Insecta by means of immunohistochemistry. Antisera to the pivotal clock protein Period (PER) and the pacemaker constituent PDH (pigment dispers ing hormone) reacted with discrete sets of neurons in the brain of all examined insects, i.e. a bristletail, firebrat, mayfly, damselfly, two locust species, stonefly, two bug species, beetle, caddisfly, honeybee, and two blowfly species. Antisera to theprothoracicotropic (PTTH) and the eclosion (EH) hormones typically reacted with a few neurons in dorsal protocerebrum. We found no signs of PER, PDH, PTTH, and EH co-localization in identical neurons.
