dcterms:description
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different breeding technology applied on mountain farms on somatic cell count (SCC) in milk as an indicator of udder health. The SCC in individual cow milk samples were analysed in thirty-two herds in the Czech Republic in 2004-2008. The herds consisted of two most common dairy breeds in the region, the Holstein and the Czech Fleckvieh. Three breeding technologies were distinguished: (1) the seasonal pasture and loose housing in the rest of a year, five herds, (2) seasonal pasture and tie stalls in the rest of a year, ten herds, and (3) all-year-through loose housing, seventeen herds. The General Linear Models analysis was conducted in order to evaluate the effect of the breeding technology on SCC in milk. The effects of breed, parity, year and days in milk (covariate) were also included in the analysis. The seasonal pasture with loose housing (variant 1 ) revealed lower SCC in cow mik samples (P < 0.001) than the two other variants of b The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different breeding technology applied on mountain farms on somatic cell count (SCC) in milk as an indicator of udder health.
