The paper deals with the modelling of a single control rod from the VVER 1000 nuclear reactor by means of the absolute nodal coordinate formulation (ANCF), which is the suitable modelling approach for flexible beams performing a large motion. The basic analysis of the control rod drop in the guiding tube including contact behaviour is presented. Parametric studies of numerical model are commented.
