We identified the elasticity modulus for both living (34 kPa) and formalin-fixed samples (440 kPa). The ultimate strength was 0.10 MPa in living samples and (0.46 MPa) in formalin-fixed samples. The microcracks ran preferentially through the collagen connective tissue far from the SMC rather than through the connective tissue surrounding the SMC (p-value between 0.012-0.002). The relative volume proportion of SMC was 57.8%, their numerical density was 425 925 mm-3, surface density of SMC was 405.9 mm-1 and the mean cell volume of 203 SMC was 1 358 microns3. Delaunay triangulation of centres of gravity did not reveal any anisotropy in arrangement of SMC. The mean distance of profiles of neighbouring cells was 26.2 ?m, providing that the cells were situated in vertices of a model network formed by equilateral triangles.
