dcterms:description
Burial mounds, barrows, tumuli, or kurgans are among the most visible monuments of our past. They have been archaeologically exploited for a very long time. Since the days of treasure hunters and antiquarians to the present day scholars, people were fas cinated by the enigma of the contents and origin of barrows. There is a long tradition of archaeological interest in burial mounds, currently new questions about the future methods, topics and strategies are raised in this field of research. Funerary mo numents with above ground structures are endangered and highly exposed archaeological sources and as such they require particular strategy within the heritage resource management. Their protection has to be followed by a new set of standard requirements for methods and strategy of their research. We prefer contributions concerning the non-destructive methods (aerial reconnaissance, archaeometry, geo-sciences), new approaches towards the excavation of barrows and processing data recovered.
