Double fed machine has the big advantage for electric drives with high rated power and with the close range of working speed. Pumped storage power plant (rated power e.g. 330MW) with speed range from 90% to 110% of the synchronous speed (i.e. the range of the slip is ?10%) is typical example. Double fed generator reduces the required power of the supplying converter (for the power plant of 330MW we need converter with rated power ?only? 33 MW). We have to apply a special control algorithms based on the mathematical description for using the double fed machine.
