The focus of the paper is the development and testing of a system generating a low-voltage arc for ignition of a fuel-air mixture in an internal combustion engine The system can achieve ignition energy of the arc which is several times higher compared to the conventional high-voltage ignition systems. The key application of the system is the ignition of a lean hydrogen-air mixture in a gaseous fuel direct injection engine. Tests were carried on a specially modified single-cylinder engine allowing for a wide range control of turbo boost pressures and equipped with a mixing device for preparation of hydrogen-natural gas fuel mixtures.
