Using special protective capsules, laboratory castings made of the binary alloy of the type Fe-40at.%Al, which is difficult to form, were successfully hot rolled. The rolling was performed from thickness 20 to 13 mm with 6 or 4 passes. Regardless of the way of production and processing of the samples, rolled products without surface cracks had always been obtained, but with some pores and/or cavities and indications of internal intercrystalline cracks. It may be considered as success, with regard to the fact that initial grains were extremely coarsened due to the previous homogenisation annealing 1200°C/24 hours. Structural analyses were particularly complicated by considerable heterogeneity and coarseness of the material in all phases of its processing.
