A safety-related cable currently used in nuclear power plants was exposed to accelerated aging to simulate its long-term operation at a temperature of 55 degrees C and a dose rate of 0.2 Gy/h, including loss of coolant accident (LOCA). We studied the influence of excessive mechanical stress on its rate of degradation. Some of the samples were bent and others were pressed, and the aging results were compared with a control sample aged without any mechanical stress. The results have shown a relatively small effect of the mechanical stress applied during the aging on the cable function and LOCA resistance, compared to the results obtained on a cable aged without mechanical stress.
