dcterms:description
Micronutrient fertilizer was produced from the waste salt concentrate (brine) coming from whey desalination by electrodialysis by addition of trace elements. Physicochemical properties of brine produced by the electrodialysis process in whey desalination application were determined considering whey type (sweet whey, acid whey) and desalination level. Concentrations of ions in brine was studied and compared with recommended values for meadows and pastures fertilizers. Trace elements necessary for plant nutrition which not present in the milk whey (boron, copper, zinc, manganese and molybdenum) were added into the brine. Fertilizer effect on green mass production was verified experimentally by its application on four model meadows with 8 grass mixtures. Each model meadow used was 12.5m2 large sod-podzolic sandy loam soil 50-70cm thick layer laid on sand. Fertilizer was applied in model meadows four times; each dose was 80 m3/km2. Grass was mowed five times and obtained green mass between fertilized and unfertilized meadows were compared. Average increase of 8.4%, 7.3% and 2.7% in green mass production for all 8 mixtures was observed during 3rd, 4th and 5th mowing making average increase in green mass production of 6.3%. Positive effect of fertilizer was verified for 21 experiments out of total 24 (3 mowing, 8 grass mixtures). Largest positive effect of 21.5% yield increase was observed in 3rd mowing for the mixture of 8 grass types and largest negative effect of 2% yield decrease was observed in 5th mowing for the same grass mixture. Because of these positive results fertilizer was recommended for usage on meadows and pastures.
