dcterms:description
An explanation of the diode reverse recovery mechanism is provided in a simple circuit. Then a two-diode circuit fed by current is analyzed from the reverse recovery point of view. This simple circuit is often a part of rectifiers with current-mode active elements that are suitable for high-frequency signal processing. Feeding the rectifying diodes by current is advantageous because a diode fed by current can be usually considered as an ideal switch and its forward voltage drop can be neglected. A voltage bias is applied in the two-diode circuit mentioned to keep the diodes close to their conducting state and to reduce their voltage swing, which also reduces the diode capacity discharge time significantly. A symbolic formula for the time response of the two-diode circuit is computed using a differential equation describing the circuit. Graphical waveforms of the currents and voltages are computed and the influence of the bias voltage on the switching time is observed.
