dcterms:description
This contribution lies in adopting the concept of Wang Tiles to generalize the Periodic Unit Cell (PUC) approach for modeling of heterogeneous materials. In contrast to a single PUC, when using Wang tilings the microstructural information is stored within multiple tiles, thereby reducing morphological artifacts due to repetitiveness. In particular, as we store the information in more than one cell, periodicity and long-range order spatial artefacts induced by the PUC are better controlled. Moreover, multiple tiles also result in relaxing the restriction imposed on a single cell representation in terms of containing complete morphological information.
