Chloride ingress is an important aspect of durability design and maintenance, since in many regions winter salt application for traffic safety is very common, especially for highways. This paper will give a short overview of a feasible approach to analyze possible chloride induced deterioration by the example of an Austrian highway bridge, which was demolished in the year 2008. Work covers the extraction of samples, the necessary chemical analysis and numerical simulations based on the Cellular Automata approach.
