Fracture energy is basic parameter of non-linear fracture-mechanical theory of cementitious materials. In the paper fracture energy as both the theoretical parameter of cohesive crack models and the parameter determined from laboratory tests is discussed. Experimentally assessed value of fracture energy GF of railway sleepers concrete is presented as well as the effective crack extension. These fracture properties are compared to asymptotic fracture parameters Gf and cf according to Bazants size effect model, which were obtained from size effect SEN-TPB simulations with help of ATENA FEM system.
