Reformační reakce metan-vodní pára se používá jako základní proces pro přípravu vodíku a syntézního plynu v chemickém průmyslu. Základními částmi technologického procesu jsou : úprava vstupních složek do reformingu, výroba vodíku pomocí reformingové reajce (SMR) a konverze CO, čištění vodíku pomocí adsorpce PSA, komprese vyrobeného vodíku a výroba vodní páry.
