dcterms:description
Glasses are amorphous materials that lack the periodicity of crystalline substances. Structurally, they resemble metastable supercooled liquids but behave mechanically like solids. A typical way of preparing glass is by cooling a viscous supercooled liquid fast enough to avoid crystallization. Although this way of preparation is known for several thousands of years, the underlying molecular mechanism is not fully understood.
