Paper describes ferrite and core-shell ferrite pigments and especially focuses on syntheses and anticorrosion properties of the prepared pigments. During the synthesis, which is in fact a calcination process, lamellar zinc particles oxidize slightly and then react with iron oxide that bond to ZnO particles on the surface. As a stating substances lamellar zinc, iron oxide, magnesium carbonate and calcium carbonate were used. MexZn1-xFe2O4/Zn and MexZn1-xFe2O4 (Me = Mg or Ca) calcination products were dispersed into epoxyester binder and final paints applied on corrosion test panels. Series of accelerated corrosion tests were carried out as well as mechanical and electrochemical testing.
