Four nitramines, BCHMX, epsilon-HNIW, RDX, and beta-HMX, were studied as extruded plastic explosives bonded by the plastic matrix contains Butadiene-Styrene rubber plasticized by oily material (Formex P1). For comparison, the explosive Formex P1 based on PETN was studied. The detonation velocities, D, were measured experimentally. Detonation parameters were also calculated by means of Kamlet & Jacobs method and EXPLO5 code. Shaped charges filled by the studied explosives and by the same volume, with the same head height and the same type of conical copper liner which has the same dimensions. Penetration performance of shaped charges jets from a fixed selected standoff distance on Aluminum armors was measured. It was concluded that the detonation parameters and penetration performance of the studied plastic BCHMX are higher than the studied plastic RDX. Plastic HNIW has the highest penetration performance from the studied explosives.
