dcterms:description
The impact of the operational conditions upon both the performance and selectivity of membrane microfiltration separation process combined with sorption on Zeolite A was investigated experimentally. The tests were performed in cross-flow microfiltration unit equipped with tubular ceramic membranes. The parameters examined were Zeolite A dose, membrane fouling, and removal of microorganisms, particulates as well as soluble matter from the treated water. Optimal process conditions were determined for the treatment that leads to a high effective capacity of the sorption material. Further was verified that direct addition of Zeolite A to highly polluted feeds tends to minimise membrane fouling and prolong filtration cycles. This integrated ion exchange/membrane process eliminates the need for high pressures as it is in the case of RO and NF. In addition to turbidity, bacteria, and hardness reduction, the process can also be optimised for removal of some cations, such as lead, cadmium, ammonia, manganese, The impact of the operational conditions upon both the performance and selectivity of membrane microfiltration separation process combined with sorption on Zeolite A was investigated experimentally.
