The article documents the use of the metaphor %22Russian Bear%22. in German quality newspapers within the period 2000-2013 (governments of Wladimir Putin). The qualitative analysis is based on methods from cognitive linguistics and structuralism. It can be shown that the change in the bi-national relationships between the Federal Republic of Germany and Russia are mirrored in the change of the semantic features of the metaphor %22Russian Bear%22. The frame-analysis is used to show the dichotomy in the opposing sets of the semantic features.
