This article deals with the possibilities of using digital watermarking principles for the protection of medical images. On various methods it looks from several basic perspectives. First, from security perspective - ensuring the authenticity and copyrights. Next, it discusses division of watermarking methods, from the application on individual medical images point of view. In detail, there are described techniques: reversible watermarking, zero watermarking and watermarking in RONI (Region of Non Interest).
