CAVER Viewer application for protein visualization was developed in cooperation with Loschmidt Laboratories, Faculty of Science, Masaryk University. The main goal of this research is to analyze protein molecules and to detect so called channels in them. Channels are paths leading from the outside part of the molecule to so called active site of protein. In this active site important chemical reactions can undergo. After channel detection the transportation of small molecule of substrate into the active site follows. The result of the chemical reaction between protein and substrate can be a product which forms the basis of some new medication. The main contribution of the CAVER Viewer application is the automatic detection of all possible channels in protein and their exploration using novel visualization methods implemented in this program. So it is possible to eliminate the inconvenient channels and accelerate the process of drug design.
