Groundwater contamination by arsenic in Brahmabaria district, Bangladesh, has been investigated. Concentrations of oxygen, nitrate and sulfate are low and concentrations of manganese and iron are high in samples with high arsenic concentrations. Dissolution of manganese minerals seems to buffer redox potential in samples with relatively low As concentrations. Principal electron donor is organic matter in sediments. Byla zkoumána kontaminace podzemní vody arzenem na lokalitě Brahmanbaria v Bangladéši. Vzorky s vysokou koncentrací arzenu mají nízké koncentrace kyslíku, dusičnanů a síranů a vysoké koncentrace manganu a železa. Rozpouštění minerálů manganu pravděpodobně pufruje redoxní potenciál u vzorků s relativně nízkou koncentrací arzenu. Hlavním elektronovýn donorem je organická hmota v sedimentech.
