The use of artificial substrate for evaluation of river benthic algae community has its important limitations. Beside the selectivity of different substrate and unpredictable behavior of individual species in different physical conditions, there is also successional delay, which leads to results highly influenced by timing of experiment and does not allow the repetition of experiment.
