The evaluation of one s own abilities and the formation of individual aspiration limiting the level of achievement is an important aspect of self-esteem in adolescence. The adequate correspondence between perceived approval by the others and various aspects of self-esteem is essential as well. The overall level of self-esteem is affected by experiences of success and failure and by the perception of causality in regard to one s own achievement. The children aged between 12 and 15 years completed self-esteem questionnaire based on C. R. Rogers concepts and bi-polar scales of four causal factors (abilities, effort, task difficulty, chance) to assess their school achievement. The data analyses were conducted separately for pupils with good school results and pupils with school failure. The association between adequate self-esteem and aspiration level and the responsibility for one s own achievement was found.
