Word play, punning, joking and teasing do not necessarily disrupt the topical %22talk%22 (i.e., the actual live sports commentary) - they occasionally become the very subject matter of pseudo-conversational exchanges, thereby redefining the speech event from a referential media text into an instance of interpersonal gossip.
