dcterms:description
The Variscan Belt, which includes DevonianCarboniferous high-/ultrahigh-pressure (HP/UHP) metamorphic rocks, extends from the Iberian Massif through the Armorican Massif, French Massif Central, Schwarzwald, and Vosges, and continues to the Bohemian Massif (Figure 12.1). The basement units with HP rocks are exposed over a wider area, whereas other portions of the belt are extensively covered by younger sedimentary formations. In addition, the southern part of the Variscan belt was incorporated in the Alpine orogenic system. The last two decades of research in metamorphic rocks brought many direct and indirect pieces of evidence indicating that parts of these rocks experienced UHP metamorphic conditions or were exhumed from such depths The Variscan Belt, which includes DevonianCarboniferous high-/ultrahigh-pressure (HP/UHP) metamorphic rocks, extends from the Iberian Massif through the Armorican Massif, French Massif Central, Schwarzwald, and Vosges, and continues to the Bohemian Massif (Figure 12.1).
