The objective of the present study was to assess the short-term effect of CRT on biomarkers of cardiac remodelling and fibrosis (sST2, galectin-3, NT-proBNP) together with marker of oxidative stress (ceruloplasmin). Serum levels of soluble ST2, galectin-3, NT-proBNP and ceruloplasmin were measured before and two months after CRT device implantation in 18 consecutive CRT candidates (15 men, 3 women) with device implantation between 1st January and 31st March 2011. Mean patients' age was 68 years, mean LV EF was 29%, 66% of the patients had ischemic aetiology of CHF and 33% had atrial fibrillation. Mean interval between first and second measurement was 66 days.
