dcterms:description
Attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD) is a common psychiatric condition. Its main symptoms include attention deficit in the presence of impulsivity, chronic restlessness, understimulation, disorganised behaviour, disorders of affect control, and emotional lability. WMH (World Mental Health) studies show that an average of 50% of children with ADHD continue to meet the DSM-IV criteria for ADHD as adults. Persistence is closely related to the profile of ADHD symptoms in childhood (with the highest persistence being linked to the combination of inattentive and hyperactive-impulsive types, while the lowest persistence of the symptoms has been found in the hyperactive-impulsive type). The aim of this work is to point out the influence of the ADHD symptoms on the quality of life of adults diagnosed with this disorder. The World Health Organisation (WHO) defines quality of life as an individual's perception of their position in life in the context of the culture and value systems in which they live and in relation to their goals, expectations, standards, and concerns. It is a wide-ranging concept affected in a complex way by the person's physical health, psychological state, personal beliefs, social relationships, and relationship to salient features of their environment. Five general areas in which ADHD affects quality of life have been identified in the ADHD quality of life conceptual model: work, daily activities, relationships, and psychological and physical well-being. These areas are grouped into three core quality of life domains: productivity (work and daily activities),relationships, and health (both psychological and physical).
