The effect of diosmectite on the course of post-weaning diarrhoeal infection and immune response in weaned piglets was evaluated. Pro-inflammatory cytokine TNF-α and anti-inflammatory TGF-ß1 concentration in small intestine (duodenum, jejunum, ileum) and blood serum was measured. Dietary use of diosmectite was not effective in alleviation or shortening of diarrhoea in weaned piglets. However, diosmectite had a positive effect on the intensity of intestinal inflammation. The influence of diosmectite on the inflammatory response (production of TNF-α and TGF-ß1) was recorded.
